Protein Biochemist
San Francisco Bay Area, CA
The Company
Decade is a personalized cancer therapeutics company. We use cutting-edge AI, high-throughput data and a deep understanding of cancer biology to create targeted therapies that address the unique molecular signatures of each patient's tumor.
We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area where our world-class team includes scientists, technologists and experienced business leaders. We value scientific rigor, elegant engineering and real-world impact.
We are well-funded by leading venture capitalists with a track record in both technology and biotech.
The Role
Decade is hiring an experienced researcher to make foundational contributions to our biotherapeutics design team by leading the development and implementation of biochemical and cellular assays to ensure the selectivity and specificity of our novel protein therapeutics.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in biochemical assay development, molecular biology, and potentially protein engineering and synthetic biology. They will be excited by the potential of multiplexed assays to efficiently characterize individual binders as well as generate high-quality data for improved binder design and AI model training.
The ideal candidate will be organized, quantitative and a good communicator. They will excel in the fast-paced environment of an early stage biotech with exceptional colleagues.
If you are excited by the prospect of working at the intersection of oncology, biochemistry, AI protein design and personalized medicine, we'd love to hear from you.
How You'll Drive Impact
  • Lead development of biochemical, biophysical, cell- and tissue-based assays for selectivity profiling of cancer therapeutics
  • Develop, implement and scale methods to accurately and efficiently characterize biotherapeutic selectivity versus panels of potential off-target risks
  • Generate high-quality, high-throughput data suitable for use in AI models (in collaboration with ML/AI colleagues)
  • Perform sophisticated biochemical characterization including protein-protein interactions, enzyme kinetics, binding affinity measurements, and structure-activity relationship studies as appropriate
  • Design and execute comprehensive tissue panel studies across multiple cancer types and normal tissues
  • Evaluate, onboard and orchestrate CRO partners as appropriate
  • Collaborate with other members of the Decade team and contribute to the development of other high-throughput assays
Essential Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Protein Engineering, Cancer Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or related field
  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience; hiring level will be commensurate with experience and skill set
  • Deep expertise in assay development and validation, particularly for selectivity studies; multiplexed assays preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of biochemical characterization techniques such as SPR, BLI, flow cytometry, and fluorescence-based assays
  • Experience with tissue panel screening and ex vivo assay development
  • Experience with patient-derived samples and primary tissue analysis
  • Highly organized, quantitative and good communication skills
Desirable Qualifications
  • Strong opinions on correct approaches
  • Experience in using LLMs for improving scientific productivity
